Fall 2020 - Et-Tell Excavation / JFS Tour
Join us for two weeks digging at Et-Tell (perhaps the Biblical site of Ai) and two weeks touring Israel. The dig will be directed by Titus Kennedy and the tour will be led by Andrew Cross. You have the option to apply for the dig, the tour, or both.
The Dig
Et-Tell is an impressive tel just north of Jerusalem and an important site for understanding the history of Canaan in the Bronze Age. We will be focusing on the lower city. We dig from Sunday to Thursday – 6 AM to 1 PM. There will be some optional tours on the weekend.
The Tour
We will keep the group size small and go off the beaten path. The tour will be fast paced so a reasonable degree of physical fitness is required. We want to take time to experience the places we visit, speak with local Palestinians, Druze, and Israelis, buy food in the local markets, and stay in places where we can observe the culture and way of life. There will be opportunities in the evenings to discuss some of the historical and theological issues related to the sites we visit. You can find a sample tour itinerary here.
